Milio build thoughts

I'm increasingly sure 13.20 makes milio strong and eventually popular.
1) decent vs meta engage (rell, rakan, ali)
2) a few more procs on passive (oblivion orb, aery? spellthief? manaflow? echoes of helia?)
people will point to 1 and 2 (because people prefer clever explanations over "higher numbers") but in my mind the big one is
So I was thinking is there anything interesting to build or no?

If helia procs on passive and gets a lot I could maybe see it in enchanter vs enchanter 5v5 front to back games, otherwise just shurelya's still. Oblivion orb could do a lot of damage now that it procs on passive, chemtech putrifier still not as good as sofw or even ardent. If you ever buy the yellow item on an enchanter vs anything other than like zyra ashe you're probably yellow irl (not asian!! just cowardly). Boots of lucidity are overtuned in general. His ap ratios seem really low but they did buff r (to a massive 50% ap, for context janna e is 55% ap and janna r is 150% ap) and more importantly you proc passive a lot with 20% ap, so maybe dark seal since the champ tends to have a high kda.
Runes
Looking at my past games (one nice thing legendsofleague does already is show how much each rune did) in a normal game aery shields like 2000 which is sort of like sona. 13.20 changes aery shield scaling 30 – 75 + 22.5% AP ⇒ 30 – 100 + 5% AP, say you're lvl 9, 52.5 +5% ap vs 65 + 22.5% ap, if you have >71ap it is a nerf, so aery will be a bit worse and ap scaling will be a bit worse but whatever. Also once passive dmg is milio's own dmg, aery could apply when someone else hits an enemy and procs passive, but the thing is to do that first you have to give the ally aery...so it's probably on cd. But milio passive lasts 4s on ally then does 1.5s dmg over time on enemy, so there might be time to get aery back after shielding and do dmg again idk.
Right now manaflow sucks on milio because you don't stack it ever (only by hitting q, so basically never), they might make it so passive procs manaflow now but even so meh if you can go without manaflow currently and not go oom, it seems like you can get away without manaflow. But idk if you could stack it it'd be viable. Also interesting thing about nimbus cloack, the wiki says it gives 20% ms for cds > 200, 25% for cds > 250, and with lucidity and cosmic insight together flash goes down to 230s - in that case you actually lose a bit of nimbus cloak movespeed for buying lucidity?
Transcendence is pretty good because haste is your best stat, it gives you effects like cc cleanse and passive up more often.
Again his ap ratios seem really low but idk maybe you proc passive a lot. Ofc if you have 8 ap from gathering storm that's a fat 1.6 damage.

Ghost poro is a great rune in general and gives 30 ap, so 6 passive dmg which again is small but maybe decent with his shield/heal scaling...but his E is 30% and his W is literally 15% ap so incredibly low given the 29-21 cd. Funnily enough his Q has a random 120% ap ratio (!?) and apparently slows 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% (+ 5% per 100 AP) for 1.5s, so at max rank with 800 ap you could 100% slow people, but the Q is very beside the point because it is a useless ability that you will never hit on any champion ever. Not to the extent of like Nami Q, like Milio Q is actually pretty good for self peel, but as opposed to E which you can constantly spam Q you can only use when they dive you in teamfights so not nearly as often. Anyways I'd really like to go ghost poro on everything because it's op (except against umbral glaive champs ie pyke/senna, maybe kaisa, and my plan for milio is to just ban senna). The one thing idk is if milio ap ratios are good or not but yeah.
What milio definitely is really good with is shurelya's/sofw/ardent, because he applies them so well (and oblivion orb after 13.20). This means he uses gold well, so I kind of like the idea of treasure hunter. It's kind of a win-more rune which isn't always great, but again gold is good - gold is >100% gold efficient. If a rune gives some ap sure it's worth that much gold, but if it gives gold which you use to buy super efficient items like shurelya's or sofw then that rune is also super efficient.
With that in mind, free boots might also be good to get 300g free, free boots is probably better than treasure hunter actually since by 12 minutes it sounds unlikely you've collected all 5 treasure hunter stacks, especially if losing, and with only 4 stacks treasure hunter is only 320g and free boots gives a random 10 bonus ms. Also it's fun to just rush shurelya's.
Since gold is good you might think future's market is good, but I never understood how this rune could be good, at 12 minutes it gives 200g minus 50g per use...by that point free boots is strictly better? On your first back it gives 100g but it's not like you're getting a serrated dirk or something so it seems not worth.
Cosmic insight might be good, pretty sure shurelya's 4s champ cd gets reduced by item haste. It'd be fun if you got it down to 3s so milio W (lasts 6s) procs it 3 times? For 25% cdr you need 33 haste, ie stacked ingenious hunter. Which sounds fun but gimmicky.
It'd be funny to write all this then say meh just go standard revitalize 2nd anyways. It might be right though, 160 base on E isn't bad with 2 stacks and 13s cd. I don't think you need conditioning that much though on milio, even the shield bash armor/mr early you don't really need, the champ is very safe. Too bad they don't enable rylais on teammate passive, otherwise font of life would actually be good, but it does nothing atm. Anyways yeah maybe just revitalize and second wind/conditioning idk.
One last really overcooked possibility - first strike? The problem is first strike is balanced for gangplank, karthus, and zed (made your whole year in a week too, yeah) and milio does very little damage. The only thought behind it is you could proc it on a teamamate passive, so you do 15-50 + 15% their ad + 20% your ap, so lvl 1 maaaaybe 30 dmg meaning like 3 first strike dmg...so you're getting literally just 2 or 3 gold beyond the base 5 gold. 25-15s cd, even procing this thing off cd, you aren't getting much gold. It does have the 20% ally AD, so maybe later in the game your jhin has 200 ad and you get 40 damage, then wait no ah that's just 2.8 gold. Ok this is not going to get much gold lol. Neverthless! I do not care about the LP of my teamamtes and will try this when 13.20 comes out. Ofc it sounds bad mostly because you aren't getting 1000 gold like good first strike champs, and because aery gets a lot of shielding, but oh well.
i think you make some really interesting points! i've wanted to add milio to my champ pool, as i also think that senna and milio are the big winners in this patch/meta. i've been watching a lot of vods to understand the decision making behind when to use his abilities, but i still struggle with understanding who/when to use his w and r (r obviously when cc'd but i guess how often i should use it for the heal/tenacity or strictly only for cc'd teammates). your point on his ap ratios being lackluster but the item haste being worthwhile was not something i previously thought about. getting 3 shurelya's procs per champ with the w because you were able to reduce the 4s cd per champ down to 3s honestly sounds really good. i think another thing that makes his playstyle different than sona (since i've only been playing sona/maokai) is that besides his q, all of his other abilities are casted on his teammates. this means that he can play extremely far back in fights and position a lot safer without feeling like he HAS to play up to make an impact on fights. thanks also for posting your insights and thoughts on topics like this, i find it really interesting and love talking about this stuff! :) |
