Pyke's hook pulls you a constant distance towards him, not all the way, so getting hit by it at max range is better than getting hit right next to him. It is ofc suspicious that I die 10 times every time I play against Pyke, but I swear staying away from him works if you actually do it.

I think pyke players expect you to dodge one way or another, so straight lining when dodging usually always works
